A source. A comparison. A decision.
A proposed programme connecting scientific records to formulation and assay decisions through reproducible data, explicit conditions and useful experimental questions.
Proposed evidence-engineering direction | External sources and defined methods; scope, rights and delivery capacity to be agreed.
The decision gives the data its job
Identify the formulation choice that remains unresolved, then select the observations capable of changing what the team does next.
A formulation team rarely needs every paper about an ingredient. It needs to know whether a particular preparation deserves a bench comparison, which endpoint would discriminate it from the current approach, and what would justify the next commitment. Evidence engineering begins with that decision. A dataset becomes useful when its identities, conditions and limitations allow another person to follow the reasoning without relying on the presenter’s confidence. The proposed programme would build that chain around material development and biochemical assays, retaining the boundary between published external observations and experiments a future collaboration might undertake.

Working tools and proposed development
Inspect a working evidence passport before discussing a larger collection, with external observations and prospective services clearly distinguished.
The published Material Evidence Atlas already demonstrates a bounded interaction: preparation, experiment, observation and a downloadable passport. It uses checked external records and a browser-local question; it does not predict ingredient compatibility. The proposed programme expands the method behind that subset rather than claiming an exhaustive database. New case collections would be selected for a specific buyer question, with the necessary rights and scientific review before integration. The existing tools provide a starting point for discussion, while paid briefs, new experiments, recurring access and API delivery remain propositions whose scope and practical delivery would need agreement.
Three different scientific starting points
Follow polymer preparation, physical behaviour and enzyme assays through separate evidence chains, each designed around its own scientific question.
Published evidence shows why one universal record is insufficient. Sun et al. (2015) distinguish material characterisation from functional tests on another preparation class. Nemergut et al. (2023) report catalytic parameters in a defined enzyme–substrate experiment. Woodbridge et al. (2025) deposit rheology measurements across different types of sweep. These records require different identities, endpoints and denominators. A source catalogue that removes those distinctions may look comprehensive while making a decision worse. The programme would preserve each experimental structure, then identify the narrow comparison that can be made and the bridge that a new study would have to establish.

Keep the conditions attached to the result.
Make scientific records useful through source-linked comparisons, explicit units and a reproducible decision trail.
Structure without a false quality score
Connect each result with its preparation and measurement context so that a second scientist can challenge the same comparison.
The proposed evidence record links an observation to its tested preparation, source location, method and measured quantity. Missing information remains visible rather than being replaced by a plausible guess. STRENDA’s reporting fields provide a useful starting structure for enzyme records, while FAIR principles support identifiers, provenance and reuse metadata (STRENDA Commission, 2021; Wilkinson et al., 2016). Neither is an automatic scientific approval. A complete record may still contain a weak comparison, and an incomplete record may contain a valuable observation. The reader needs the specific information that changes their decision, not a single reassuring evidence score.

More readings—or more evidence?
Change the independent preparations and repeat readings. See which source of variation the next measurement can actually reduce.
The data, equations and controls remain available below if 3D cannot load.
Defined model · illustrative conditions
Points are discrete design calculations, joined for comparison. No experimental observations or confidence intervals are shown.
Fund the preparation or repeat that addresses the uncertainty relevant to the development decision.
The defined comparison
Balanced random-intercept scenario with between-preparation SD 10 response AU and within-preparation SD 6 response AU. Preparations are independent; residual readings are independent with common variance. The naive estimate treats all BR readings as independent and ignores clustering. The 3D groups depict a design count, not measured sample values. No confidence interval, power or precision guarantee is calculated. Drift, pairing, operators, serial correlation and unequal group sizes need additional structure.
Inspect the calculated values
Calculation grid, not measured observations. Inputs and assumptions are stated above.

Analysis that can be challenged
Keep published observations, reproduced arithmetic and fitted interpretations visible as separate layers when assessing what a result can support.
A proposed comparison would retain original numerical observations, any reported parameter estimates and independently reproduced calculations as separate layers. The method would state its fit population, objective, transformations and validation plan. Residual structure can expose failure hidden by a strong summary statistic; NIST’s modelling guidance makes that distinction explicit (NIST/SEMATECH, n.d.). A formulation or assay partner could therefore inspect what changed when a different model or condition was selected. Where the evidence does not support a model comparison, the appropriate output is a defined question and a smaller data requirement, rather than a simulated answer with unearned precision.
What a buyer could take away
Take away a traceable comparison brief that identifies the available evidence, unresolved assumptions and experiment worth considering next.
The proposed deliverable is a decision record that travels beyond the website. It would identify the application, present approach, relevant source preparations, compatible comparisons and unresolved conditions. A scientific team could use it to define a controlled test or decide that further work is unjustified. A commercial sponsor could inspect the connection between the experiment and an application requirement. The output should be explicit enough to accept, challenge or decline: an evidence collection, transformation specification and study question, with exclusions and a version. It would not imply that laboratory capacity, proprietary data or an available product has already been secured.
Earn recurring value before an API
Test whether a research team repeatedly needs the same curated records before developing subscriptions, integrations or an API.
A possible Bio data API would be worthwhile only if teams repeatedly need the same curated fields in an existing workflow. The first commercial test is a bounded comparison brief, not a large connector build. A prospective user should be able to explain which current decision is slow or ambiguous and how the exported record changes it. Repeated requests may support versioned access, update reviews or integration. Public observations would retain their original licences; the proposed fee would pay for curation and service. No exclusive ownership of open results, guaranteed cost saving or subscription demand follows from building a polished interface.
The next proposed comparison.
A source-linked comparison record and a qualified next-study decision
The next commitment should be small and informative
Define one inspectable output and the commitment it could inform before expanding the evidence search or commissioning further work.
Begin with one material or assay question, an agreed comparator and a deliverable the partner can inspect. The cheapest useful check may be resolving a concentration denominator, recovering a missing method field or discovering that two apparent studies reuse the same specimens. A later experiment should be commissioned because it could change the decision, with independent preparations and appropriate measurement uncertainty. This programme is a candidate development lane, not a declaration of several simultaneous funded projects. Its success would be demonstrated by reproducible records, decisions that become clearer and qualified work that teams consider worth commissioning.
